When Should You Use a Deep Well Socket Set for Your Water Utility?

Have you ever had issues with tightening nuts on long bolts or studs that are used on fittings? If you have, you're not alone. When you have a fitting that has a wide range of adjustment, it often has a long bolt or stud that can make it difficult to tighten the nut past a certain point with a regular socket set. You could use a wrench to tighten the nut, but that requires a certain amount of space to move the tool and frequent re-setting of the tool's orientation while only tightening the nut a few degrees at a time, costing you time in the field.

One common area where this process is problematic is when you're tightening the nuts on a repair clamp or sleeve. Because these clamps are very long to adjust for a wide range of sizes, they have long threaded bolts or studs to allow for a wide range of adjustment. This can make them difficult to tighten when you don't have the right tools for the job, and repairs typically mean you have customers who are without water. Using the wrong tools makes this process take even longer, frustrating those customers.

Our Deep Well Socket Set gives you a better option. These 7” long sockets are hollow in the middle, allowing the repair clamp's bolts or studs to travel through the center while you are tightening the nuts to secure the fitting's clamps or couplings. The Socket Set features a black oxide finish, which makes them corrosion resistant - an important feature in tools that are regularly exposed to water in repair situations. They're also heavy duty, designed to take a beating in the field while still delivering superior performance. The sockets have been designed to fit a standard ½” drive ratchet, allowing you to avoid duplicating tools you already have in your shop.

Our Deep Well Sockets have been re-designed recently for one-piece all-cast construction with no welded joints to deliver superior strength. The set comes with sockets in the typical sizes used for repair clamps, including 7/8”,15/16”,1-1/16”,1-1/8” and 1-¼”, and includes a slotted canvas bag that can be rolled and tied to provide easy storage solutions. They're also available separately, allowing you to save money if you only need one or two sizes.
