When it's time to replace service lines, is your crew spending more time digging and filling than actually getting the line in place? Do you have to deal with crowded or paved areas that are seriously disrupted whenever you need to perform service line work? What about your customers--does your call volume go up significantly because your customers are upset over access issues? If any of these problems sound familiar, you're probably missing a vital tool in your water utility's kit - a service line puller. Here are some more details on how this kit can help you save time, money and frustration.

At New Concept Tools, we're always developing new tools that are specifically focused on the needs of water utilities. When you need to replace a service line, it used to be that you would have to dig a ditch to get the old line out and the new line in. If this run included pavement, you'd quite often have to dig up the paving and then repair it after you were done. During this process, the public would often be inconvenienced. Because of the amount of work that was involved, it would often take a significant amount of time and manpower to get the job done. Questions about using the service line puller kit? Watch the video below:

As we heard stories involving replacing service lines, we knew there had to be a better way. Towards that end, we developed our Service Line Puller Kits. Allowing you to pull a range of lines from 3/4" to 2" between our two kits, the kits include strong cable, a cable grab, hammer lock and oval link to attach to a pulling tool such as a backhoe bucket, and a variety of heads for attaching and pulling the new pipe through the old.

The cable is run through the old service line, then attached at the other end to a splitter and starter tool, which are then attached to the new line. As the cable is pulled back through with the cable grab and related hardware, the bull head or plastic pipe splitter splits the old line while the new line is drawn along behind it. Because it runs through the old line, there is no need to disrupt traffic, dig up good pavement or spend a lot of extra time in excavation and repair of the area. This is especially helpful in areas that have built up since the initial line installation.

Unlike the competition's puller kits, our bull heads attach directly to the end of the cable, rather than being permanently attached. Why? If you've ever pulled a line and had the cable break, you know how much of a headache it can be. The entire line has to be replaced if the head is permanently attached. Our system makes it much easier to effect field repairs and get the job back underway. Even better, our kit is strong enough to replace HDPE, plastic, copper, steel, and lead pipes.

When you include a service line puller kit in your toolkit, it can make it much easier to get service lines run without excessive damage and labor. But what if you're not sure whether it's the right tool for your situation? At New Concept Tools, we're always ready to help you find the best solution for your water utility needs.
