When you work in water utilities, your efficiency is only as good as the tools you use. At New Concept Tools, our focus is on developing the best possible tools and solutions for your water utility's needs. One of our most popular solutions is our service line puller kit. Allowing you to avoid extensive and expensive excavations when replacing supply lines, this kit allows you to use mechanical power to remove or split the old line while installing the new supply line. Though we've discussed it a few times in our blog, we haven't had the opportunity to talk about the different tools that are available in the service line puller kit. Here's a quick overview to get you started:
At the heart of the tools available in our service line puller kit is the Bull Head. Unlike some other service line puller kits, we use a mechanical connection to attach the Bull Head to our cable, which means that in case of a break, you can quickly remove the Bull Head from the broken portion of the cable and reattach it to the remaining portion or a new cable with nothing more than a few basic tools. Other kits require you to buy an entire new cable because their bull head is permanently attached to the broken cable. The split design and overall durability of our Bull Head also gives you more push/pull power and an improved grabbing when making replacements, allowing it to replace pipe that may be too difficult for other puller kits to handle. In the smaller kit, the Bull Head is split, using nuts and bolts to hold it together, while the larger kit's Bull Head simply screws onto the end of the cable.
We include a 50, 75 or 100-foot cable in the kit, in 3/8" cable for the 3/4" and 1" kit and 1/2" cable in the 1-1/4" to 2" kit. An additional cable the same length as the original is included, saving you a potential trip to the store the first time you have an issue with the cable. It also includes a cable grab, hammer lock and oval link to pull the cable using a backhoe. The oval link attaches to the backhoe, the hammer lock keeps everything tied tightly together and the cable grab is designed to quickly change positions on the cable, minimizing the time you spend between pulls.
Our smaller kit includes a pipe splitter designed to split plastic pipes. This can be can be used to simply split the old pipe while pulling the new pipe into place rather than removing it. We also include a plastic adapter and starter tool to help you get your new lines moved into place as quickly and efficiently as possible. Our larger kit includes two B-adapters, depending on whether you're going from 1-1/4" to 2" or from 1-1/2" to 2".
Having the right tool for the job makes a big difference in your overall productivity, and the tools in our service line puller kit deliver the best possible performance in tough conditions.
